David Puga Bolio studied for a first degree in Industrial Engineering at the Universidad del Mayab in Merida, Mexico. After a brief period in industry, working as a Plant Engineer he came to the UK in 2002  with a scholarship from the Mexican National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) to study for an MSc in Manufacturing Systems Engineering at the University of Warwick. Upon David’s return to Mexico, he worked at the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad del Mayab as a Lecturer in Engineering, teaching courses in Maintenance and Safety, Introductory Operations Research and Work Study. As part of the Faculty's research team, David have worked on projects related to Supply Chain Management in micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. On 2008 he was awarded a scholarship to undertake a PhD in Management Science at Lancaster University Management School, working on the organisational aspects of patient safety within the NHS. David formally joined the Lancaster Patient Safety Research Unit in early October, 2008.

His work will be looking at how people conceptualise and process patient safety related information from an organisational point of view, and how is this information translated into concrete actions that lead to improvement. David will also be working on measurement and monitoring of patient safety indicators, and how are these used in patient safety improvement initiatives applying systems engineering methodologies.
