James was one of the unit's researchers from the unit's early steps until June 2010 when he started pursuing a career in clinical psychology. With a background studying psychology (BSc) and particularly social psychology (MSc) at Lancaster University, I have developed strong interests regarding social interaction, identity and self-conception. In an advanced studying of such social topics, my research work has been very much concerned with how knowledge of our identities influences, regulate and structure human thought and behaviour.

My most recent work examined the commonsense philosophies in which ordinary social actors may construct nation-ness as a matter of subjective identity i.e. national identity should not be seen as a passive means by which citizens are bound culturally and socially to the state, but a more interactive process whereby individuals have the available means for constructing who they are and who they want to be. In examining such processes, this research was concerned with how this nation-ness is constructed and affected in regards to different lay geographies, historiographies and the construct of Britain.
In applying my previous knowledge to future research, I will be taking a particular interest upon checking procedures examining how various aspects and methods involved in the checking of patients may affect the quality and overall safety of patients' treatment. In addition, a focus upon work-related human interactions and routines will also be an area of interest.
My recent work includes:
