National Patient Safety Agency
The National Patient Safety Agency is part of the NHS. We were established in 2001 with a mandate to identify patient safety issues and find appropriate solutions.

Patient Safety Research Programme
The Patient Safety Research Portfolio (PSRP) was set up to promote patient safety research in the wake of the publication of the Chief Medical Officer's An Organisation With A Memory , a report on learning from adverse events in the NHS.

Patient Safety Research - shaping the European agenda
There was also a large patient safety research conference in Porto in 2007. Workshop papers and other materials from the conference are available at Patient Safety Research

World Health Organisation
WHO is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.

World Alliance for Patient Safety
In October 2004, WHO launched the World Alliance for Patient Safety in response to a World Health Assembly Resolution (2002) urging WHO and Member States to pay the closest possible attention to the problem of patient safety. The Alliance raises awareness and political commitment to improve the safety of care and facilitates the development of patient safety policy and practice in all WHO Member States. Each year, the Alliance delivers a number of programmes covering systemic and technical aspects to improve patient safety around the world.
